The Jacksonville GM Roadster Club has planned a "fun run" from St. Augustine to the Ravine Gardens in Palatka.  The run will take place Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 11:30 AM.  The Club will meet at the Race Trac Gas Station at the corner of State Road 16 and Toms Road just west of Interstate 95 Exit 318. Departure from the Race Trac is scheduled for 12 Noon.  The route will take you through parts of the St. Johns County agricultural countryside.  You will be seeing many of the cabbage and potato producing farms.  The route will turn south along the scenic St. Johns River  crossing the river at East Palatka.  You will continue through parts of downtown Palatka arriving at the Ravine Gardens State Park.  There is a $4.00 park entry fee charge per vehicle.  After entering the park, the Club will drive the 1.8 mile loop road around the ravine.  There will be opportunity to tour the park by foot.  This is peak season for the azaleas.  The park promises to be beautiful.  The Ravine Gardens State park gets its name from a ravine created over thousands of years by water flowing from the sandy ridges on the shores of the St. Johns River.  In 1933, the ravine was transferred into a beautiful garden by the federal WPA program.  You will find the park alive with azaleas, various species of trees and shrubs, native plants and even a water garden or two.  For more information on Ravine Gardens State Park, visit the gardens' web site at www.floridastateparks.org/ravinegardens.  Following our visit to the gardens, the Club will have an early dinner at Corky Bells Restaurant at Gator Landing in East Palatka.  Please RSVP Ed Maroon at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than March 26, 2009.  Join us for a day of beautiful azalea gardens, great southern food and cherished friendships.     ravines_1.jpg
